Live magazine’s powerful campaigning journalism has been honoured by Amnesty International with one of its prized Media Awards.
Selling Soccer Into Slavery, Jonathan Green’s report from Senegal into the cruel exploitation of young African men falsely promised Premier League riches, won the Newspaper Supplement category.
Presenting the award to Live editor, Gerard Greaves in Jonathan’s absence, Private Eye editor and Have I Got News For You panellist Ian Hislop commended Live for taking human rights issues to such a broad audience: “In a market where you would not necessarily expect to find that sort of writing, Live demonstrates great journalism – they were fitting and worthy winners.”
Jonathan is a regular contributor to Live magazine’s Reportage pages. Last year his investigation into how a gold rush in Ghana was causing deaths to local miners made Live the first British publication to win a prestigious American Society of Journalists and Authors award and was voted Best Feature Writer at the 2007 Magazine Design and Journalism Awards.
